Lupe Leonard: From my early childhood, I was always immersed in and intrigued by creativity. Everything that surrounded me seemed to be a source of inspiration. My love for the arts led me to pursue my tertiary studies at the Edna Manley School for the Visual and Performing Arts in Jamaica where I spent two years, followed by a year at Parsons School of Design (New York) and two years at Parsons School of Design (Paris), from which I graduated in 1998. My interest in interior design has been my inspiration for creating a line of handbags and accessories under the label (read as “ISS”), which mesh aesthetic as well as functional appeal, bearing in mind that the woman of the 21st century desires products that reflect sophistication and originality, yet remain practical. The form of every object is determined by the materials that are before me, often fabric and scraps of leather. No detail on any two of my handmade creations is identical. Giving multiple options as to the manner in which an object may be carried, sometimes by altering its form is quite characteristic of my designs. I believe that every object should be unique, as is every woman!
